My area of focus for children this age is assessment, and I often will refer on to other counsellors who do some really great therapeutic work with kids. For children under 12, I provide counselling to parents to help them manage concerns of mental health, behaviour etc. in the home and at school.
I have worked a lot with adolescents with significant behaviour and social/emotional challenges, as well as those who have experienced trauma, suicidal ideation and self-harm. Presenting concerns may include OCD, anxiety, depression and personality issues. We focus on connection, building relationship and trust, and working through specific issues, while developing positive coping strategies and managing family and peer relationships.
I see adults for a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, OCD, personality issues, life transitions, grief, parenting, relationships, and other mental health challenges. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities including cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), narrative therapy and solution-focused therapy. I practice from a trauma-informed and attachment focused lens.
I see married and unmarried couples to work through presenting issues of communication, distrust, infidelity, blended families, and discontent. Couples often find that having a third party to assist in the room helps to keep communication open, direct, honest and safe. Couples often say that having someone to mediate the conversation allows them to feel heard and work through core issues.
I have seen families both in-person in Airdrie, as well as virtually to help bring people back together in communication after years of hurt and/or misunderstanding. I have seen therapy be successful having different generations of family members all join from different locations via video!
I have training in working with women during pregnancy and postpartum, as well as certification as a holistic doula! I work with women who are experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, adjustment difficulties and grief. I also work with women to process difficult births or prepare for upcoming birth.
