Hi, I'm Kate!
I've worked in the mental health field since 2004, beginning with working with a little boy with significant behavioural challenges in Toronto (my hometown). I came out to Calgary in 2006 and worked in homes with young children on the autism spectrum and with other neurodevelopmental challenges. I then went to school to become a teacher and briefly worked in special education before taking on a management role at a middle school for children with severe social/emotional and behavioural challenges. I simultaneously pursued a diploma in addiction studies and concurrent disorders, then began my masters in psychology and became a registered psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists in 2017.
I've worked in school settings, walk-in mental health, residential settings, in-home and privately. I have worked extensively with children on the autism spectrum and with other neurodevelopmental atypicality and comorbid mental health concerns, as well as challenges with emotional regulation, functional communication, adaptive skills, behaviour and social skills. I have assessed many children and adolescents using formal and standardized measures, and have confirmed and communicated diagnoses of ADHD, depression, anxiety and autism, among others.
I've lived in Airdrie since 2009 but I still have a strong connection to lake country in Ontario as well as ocean life in Victoria where I also have family. My heart also lives in Hawaii and my family's country of origin, Ireland. I have three girls, love reading and writing, cottage life, my dog, coffee, Alberta sunshine, and friends and family.
I'm looking forward to hearing your story and working together!
